Filming diary
During our time filming, we were able to capture all of the footage that we needed to make our film opening as we took advantage of opportunities that allowed our group to collect footage together. We had to overcome some issues while filming due to COVID-19, as we were faced with restrictions which did not allow our group to go out together to collect our footage meaning we were not able to start filming with our actors. This also then limited our editing opportunities. These restrictions pushed back our filming schedule, along with pushing back the amount of time we would’ve had to edit it as well. Another barrier we had was our location. Due to the distance of our location and the timing of the year, we did lose some daylight which meant we did not have as long to gather our footage together. Due to the weather our location was affected leaving it to become more slippery and cause hazards for us, which meant we had to be extra careful to our footing and camera positions to make sure none of the equipment was damaged and that no one was hurt. In this sense we did well to collect footage under such suffocating and restrictive circumstances. And yet lacked the foresight to meticulously collect more picture evidence in preparation for the lock downs that would halt any progress and eventual stunt the production of our film. with hindsight I would alter the way we approached our film and collect more evidence with a clearer sense of urgency as well as altering all logs and plans to conform with the current projection of how filming had gone.
Editing Diary
Hindrances we faced with editing can mainly be attributed to COVID-19 and yet also to our ill prepared plan and lack of foresight on the effect that COVID-19 would have on our film with the following lockdowns. This was as we collected our footage and evidence with the intent to edit and hone our film after this to ensure we have a solid mental image on what the final product would look like. Alas this plan would ultimately be flawed with the second and third lockdowns halting all progression on the film. Despite this we kept mentally active as when filming and in down time we would be adjusting our plans for the film with a focus on music. This is as a result of our survey findings and how we found that audiences find music the most vital aspect in building suspense as well as this we found it was vital to keep a film enthralling. In this aspect we were prepared and thoroughly ready to provide audio. Furthermore we were ready and prepared to create titles as we had all practiced and created templates that would accentuate the ominous vibe we were aiming for. Despite this we could have improved the production of the final product. And done this by editing more often and with more haste to ensure we had more evidence. However this is all hindsight as we didn't foresee the effects of lock down.
